Beauty Essay

Beauty

Beauty is something special that is viewed differently by each and every person. Majority of people throughout the world visualize beauty as a tall, blonde, white girl that is on the front and back of a Victoria Secret shopping bag. In the Ted Talk, “Denis Dutton: A Darwinian Theory of Beauty”, he explains something very interesting about his point of view on what beauty really is. He explains how beauty is seen differently to him than it is to any other people, even Cameron Russell from the other two Ted Talk videos. Denis Dutton elaborates on how beauty in his eyes is not just a good-looking female with a ton of make up on her face. Beauty is a lot more to him than just that. In my opinion, the word, beauty, has a lot more meaning to it than the majority of the population really understands. Therefore, the meaning of beauty can be shown through other aspects such as, landscape, art, ancient times and culture.
Denis Dutton explained in his Ted Talk, “A Darwinian Theory of Beauty”, how beauty is not just an attractive woman. Beauty started way back when people technically had not even evolved and we were still apes growing into the people we are today. The history of how people developed and how we evolved into the generation we are currently in is considered natural beauty. Majority of people in our world, I guarantee have never looked back and thought how beautiful it really is on how far the population, people and the world have evolved from millions of years ago in the Stone Age to current times with all of the technology we use to run our lives. Beauty can definitely be shown through the history of the evolution of people and our world growing into something extremely special like we see it now.
The landscape of nature and natural phenomenon’s is another essential way beauty can be expressed. Denis Dutton stated one very interesting sentence that in my opinion explained simply what beauty is through landscape. He stated, “ Beauty is natures way of acting at a distance.” Denis Dutton is trying to explain that nature created our landscape of the world and how it currently is. Nature had a huge role to play on how the world evolved which is why it is so beautiful. It is beautiful because nature had many teachings on people in the ancient times which taught them new survival skills and ways of living through good times and bad times. Denis also sketched out a drawing of a landscape in which majority of the people would think of what he is referring to. He drew up a sketch of animals in the prairie with a body of water in the background along with grass fields that he described would have multiple shades of greens. The sketch consisted of trees and a walkway that just looked inviting to whom ever came across it. This drawing expressed how beautiful nature is along with a little bit of imagination that can create something magnificently beautiful. After Denis Dutton concluded his talk on how landscape could be something beautiful, he explained how landscape developed into art.
Art is another way beauty can be shown vividly. Like I stated before, nature is natural art which is why we can refer back to landscape as something beautiful that is naturally artistic. People also see art as sculptures from ancient times, as well as ancient, man made artifacts such as pottery. Denis Dutton stated, “Beauty is found in something done well.” Art is not just simple task that anyone can go right ahead and do. Art is a special talent given to certain people, which is why all art is considered to be something absolutely beautiful.
Beauty can even be shown through the materials used back in the ancient times to develop new ways to survive and stay healthy. For example: Denis Dutton explained how important hand axes were which were made by homo sapiens and were used very frequent in their lives. As a joke, Denis Dutton even explained how Homo sapiens even used their hand axes to attract woman into their lives. He expressed that ancient materials would generate meticulous workmanship throughout that time period. Beauty has the ability to be viewed through ancient materials that created the evolution of our world. Ancient times are considered beautiful especially in the way it shows how each and every culture developed.
One last way beauty can be expressed is through different people’s culture. Culture can be beautiful just by the way each culture lives. For example: people in Middle East part of the world in countries such as Jordan and Turkey have priorities in which they have to pray a certain amount of times a day. They live very differently than the people in the United States do. They eat different types of foods and drive different types of automobiles. For example: The people in Spain eat breakfast quickly, have a feats for lunch and a tiny dinner which is served around 10:00 PM. Culture is designed to show people who visit different ways people live and show how beautiful the world is because it is so diverse.
People throughout the world have different opinions on the meaning of beauty. Beauty can be expressed in many ways, such as landscape, art, ancient times and culture. Beauty can bring out a vivid sight to people, which is why it will always catch your eye. If something is beautiful, someone no matter what it is will see it. Beauty is not just a skinny, sexy white girl. It can be viewed in multiple ways, which expresses that beauty is something extremely magnificent and unique.

Can Beauty Be Constructed

Beauty is something special and is scene by each and every person in the world very differently. Many visualize beauty as something natural and other see beauty as a tall, skinny, white blonde with a ton of make up on. Beauty can vary in the ways people see it but the truth is that everything that people say is beautiful is not always naturally created. In my opinion, beauty has the ability to be constructed.
Beauty definitely has the ability of being constructed. For example: The video we watched in class proved that a disabled person could have fun with their disability and generate himself or herself to still be a beautiful human being. A person without legs is now able to wear different pairs of legs to show off that they are still beautiful. Another example of how beauty has the ability of being constructed is children who have the cleft lips. They have the option to get surgery to fix that issue and basically rearrange their own face into a constructed beautiful person. One last way beauty can be constructed is through make up being put on a person. People tend to say males or females that have make up on are considered to be more beautiful. In my opinion, that is not the case. But overall, there is no doubt that beauty as the ability to be constructed in multiple ways.
Natural beauty is something special and not many people see it all the time. Beauty is something more than just looks and visualizations. It has the ability to be constructed just like different pairs of legs for a disabled man or women or even a child or any aged person with a cleft lip. Beauty is something very special and everyone has beauty within himself or herself. Beauty can occur in any way and has the ability to be constructed.

BEAUTY IS HONESTY

Beauty/Honesty Response

Can Beauty Be Honest?

There is a very obvious response to the question, “Can beauty be honest?”. The world we live in is a world based on technology and perfection. Every single photo no matter if it is on the internet or on a magazine, is photo shopped until it looks as perfect as it can possibly be. Every photo of a person on the cover of a magazine, man or woman, contains them wearing make up too. People do not realize what one single photo undergoes before it is considered perfect which is why beauty can never be honest because no one ever visually sees the true image.
People are always judging others based on how they look all dressed up rather than their natural selves without make up on. Make up, photo shopping and anything else that can change a person’s perspective of an image takes away from the true beauty of the actual photo or person. Natural beauty will never be a selling product to any of the population because it is taken for granted. In other words, majority of people base beauty off of a so-called, “fake” image rather than the true image.
In Cameron Russell’s Talk Video, she explains deeply her view on what beauty actually means to the general population. She states that people see beauty as pretty, white and abnormally skinny. Beauty is seen differently but each and every person.  She also explained her personal experience of her first modeling shot. She stated that she was so young and had not even gotten her period yet, yet the photographer made her look so much older than she actually was. This explains exactly why beauty is perceived differently by majority of the population.
Beauty can never be honest. Majority of the world thinks of beauty as a stunning, skinny girl with a whole lot of make up on. This will assure that a photo’s natural beauty can never be seen. Cameron Russell emphasized her view on true beauty especially by explaining the amount her modeling image was photo shopped. People will always base beauty off of perfection, which is the number one reason why beauty will never be honest.

MY DORM ROOM

My Dorm Room

Every person has one specific place in which they enjoy or even consider their home. It can be a bedroom, bathroom, vacation home or even a friend’s house. This specific place should be somewhere that you always feel welcome, can relax and be happy, and just gather thoughts along with being in a good environment that comforts you. For me, I had to make a big transition to move into a new home in college at FDU. I adapted to my dorm room and know it is my comfort zone and my safe spot that I can consider home.
Every single morning, I go from my dorm room, to the dining hall and back to the dorm room. The walk from the dining hall to my dorm room is short, maybe a 2-minute walk. I love the walk in the brisk mornings walking back to my warm dorm room. I enjoy the nice short walk up two flights of stairs to my second floor room in Florence Hall. Sometimes I get annoyed when my swipe card takes multiple times to open the door but once I am in, I feel relaxed and composed.
In my dorm room, I have just about everything I need. Firstly, I have the most important thing possible, my bed. It might be smaller than my bed at my original house but it still is extremely comfortable for me to lie down in. Then, I have my television that is pretty descent size and has a great picture that is as sharp as a steak knife. We have an x-box attached to the televisions so my roommate and I can compete against each other. Then there is my desk. My desk is probably the actual most important thing in my dorm room especially because besides when I sleep, it is where I will be spending most of my time throughout my days. I have to get my books together every morning and then after class, I am sitting at my desk doing homework, writing papers including this one and listening to music. Lastly, I have my closet, which is where I keep all of my nice shirts and cosmetics. I have all of my 12 pairs of shoes and sneakers organized in there as well. My dorm room has everything I need and makes me feel like I am right back at home.
There is one special place for every person in the world that makes him or her feel right at home. A person’s special place has to be somewhere where they can go to when they are feeling down or need to just clear their head and relax. There is no doubt in my mind that my dorm room at FDU is a special place for me that I know I can always count on to make me feel better and relaxed.
